The story
of Odyssey of the Body

Hello there! Thanks for being here!

I’m Brianne, founder of Odyssey of the Body, LLC and its newsletter and gathering Winter Camp. I’m an editor and writer who is fascinated by how we live well and how simple things — like time together, like morning light, like breathing differently — can make a noticeable, powerful difference. (I also work for a nonprofit focused on humanism in healthcare; this project is separate from my work there.)

I created Winter Camp because winter is a hard season for so many people. It has been a hard season for me.

When I moved from Virginia to the Hudson Valley of New York, I was astonished by how long the winter lasted. The days stay short, cold, and barren for months on end.

One bright spot that helped pull me through to spring was an online creative workshop, where I met lifelong friends from around the world. That workshop (from the wonderful folks at Akimbo) ended, alas, but it taught me that a kind, encouraging, inspiring community could exist and thrive online.

The other thing that helps me get through winter is simple guidance from many experts at leading healthcare institutions: adding movement, outdoor time, nourishment, light, and creativity to my days.

These are so simple! Yet they are harder to do in the winter.

Extra nudging and support helps.

That’s why I created Winter Camp. It helps me look forward to winter and this time to gather together.

I hope Winter Camp helps brighten your season and your life, too.
